  The Wolf Hike

Our recent venture was a 6km hike from Jubilee Creek to the Millwood huts. We all met Saturday at 9am sharp at the creek. Panther got the group leaders to perform a routine inspection on our packs to make sure we all had our survival packs, at least 2ltrs of water and to confirm our kits had nothing hanging loose on them. Wolf 1's group leader was Adrian Miles and adult supervisor Flamingo. Wolf 2 was led by Mathew Winfield and supervised by Panther and Wolf 3 was led by Haley and Bulgaria supervised. At 9:45am Wolf 1 started the hike with a great cheer from the other 2 groups. Each group left at 6 min intervals. We stopped at the waterhole where we had tea. The next stretch of the hike was all uphill and we all felt the muscles pull but enjoyed our rest when we got to the top. A short 1/2km walk to the Millwood huts ended our hike. Some were glad that it was over and others were a little disappointed, but everyone enjoyed it. Wolf 4 led by Dewald and Badger completed a longer hike than us. There's was about 16km. As they came in to the hut grounds we cheered them on to help them that last bit. After lunch a quick game of cricket was enjoyed by all and a night hike to the graveyard scared the be jeepers out of us. A good nights rest meant that our campout was over but not before we had a guided tour to the mines by Kudu. It was most interesting and we all enjoyed it. Thanks to all the adults that were involved.

You guys ROCK!

  The Phantom Camp

Fun was had by all on this camp but I'm sure the pictures will tell the tale.

Matt P, Richard M and some of the older scouts went a day early to the camp site to setup HQ and the flag mast. The rest of us met at the Scout hall Saturday morning at 9.30am and we were taken through to the campsite with all of our kit by Badger, Stingray and Panther. Activities started as we reached the camp. Our first task was to construct a 5mtr plus rod to reach small bottles holding our campsite co-ordinates. Each site was placed deep in the bushes and we spent quite some time clearing out roots trees and thorns to make these sites our homes for the next few days.  Activities during the day consisted of rope tasks and challenges. That evening, Badger took us on a spooky night hike where he told us some of his scary stories and we also played stork the lantern. After a day of hard work and plenty of fun, everyone slept that night like babies.

Day two was just as busy. After breakfast we had a camp inspection and then we had Scouts own. Rope relay was next and quite a challenge. After lunch we played "Kim's game" to test our memory skills. Our knotting skills were also put to the test when we had to make monkeys fists for the next challenge. Just before our families arrived, the PL's and seconds accompanied Matt P & Richard M to the campfire site to prepare the evening entertainment. The remaining scouts had several challenges to complete with the Monkey fists and this included the parents help. Great fun was had by all.. That evening we sat around the campfire, watched the show put on by the older scouts and sang camp songs to the biggest campfire I had ever seen. We were all sad that the our evening had to come to an end.

It was day three already and I then realised that our camp was almost over. It made me feel a little sad inside but I cant wait for the next one. We had to pack our tents and equipment up as we were in for a serious inspection carried out by Badger, Stingray, Panther, Matt P & Richard M. They tried hard but couldn't find any fault at the three camps. We ended off with Flag Parade.

Thanks for the great camp guys
